Chapter 1: Running Away
~~~Laura's POV~~~
I continued grinning from ear to ear as I kept staring at the pregnancy results in my hands.
My joy knew no bounds, and I couldn't wait to share the news with my husband, Alpha Williams.
I was finally pregnant for him, he had wanted this day so badly, and how happy he would be to hear the news about it.
Stepping into our luxurious mansion, I was met with a resounding slap.
“Whack!” It sounded on my cheeks, sending me unbalanced.
With mouth agape, I inquired from my mother-in-law about the reason for her outburst.
“What… What did I do, ma'am?”
“You will know once I'm done with you. Get on your knees right now, you liar!” She cursed.
With confusion written all over me, I still made do with what she had demanded.
With my knees on the ground, I continued to probe for an answer.
“What did I do wrong, ma'am?”
I turned around and met with the piercing gaze of Williams who was sitting on the couch.
From the look on his face, I could tell what real trouble I was into.
My thoughts were interrupted by Gloria's footsteps. She had just walked in.
“How dare you, Laura? How could you? Why did you have to steal my name and pretend to be me all these years?” She asked.
Her questions left me frozen, unable to make a move.
“Is that true?” Alpha Williams asked, his gaze boring a hole in me.
I couldn't form any words to answer him. I was still in great shock.
“What's with that expression of yours, aren't you going to answer? Didn't you steal my name and get married to him?” Gloria probed, her tone sarcastic.
“But, Gloria wasn't that your…” I couldn't complete my statement as she cut in.
“Oh, shut it! You scoundrel. Are you trying to deny it?” She asked.
At that point, I felt like fainting, I had never been betrayed like this before.
It was never my plan, I had never wanted to live as someone I'm not. It was because my mum's life depended on it.
I couldn't afford the surgical transplant that my mum needed, so Gloria suggested that I marry Alpha Williams in her place in exchange for her help. However, she is not saying anything about making that offer and instead blames me for it.
“How long were you meaning to keep it from us? What would have happened if I hadn't found out?” Questioned my mother-in-law, standing akimbo.
“I'm sorry, ma'am, I didn't mean to" I pleaded, tearing up.
“That's a load of crap. You knew what you were doing, you witch!” Gloria sneered.
There was no need to try to talk to her or my mother-in-law, again, so I turned to Williams who was my last hope.
“I didn't do it on purpose, believe me, Alpha Williams " I pleaded.
“What is your real name?” He asked, and for a brief moment, my heart rejoiced.
He is going to listen to me, I thought.
“I'm Laura Jones,” I replied.
He got up from the couch and walked towards me.
Raising my head, he queried, “You dared to deceive me, Laura?”
His hands were rolled into a ball as he heaved in annoyance.
“Are you not aware of the kind of person I am, and what I could do to you concerning this?” He continued.
His gaze bore into mine, causing shivers to run down my spine. My hope was completely dashed.
“She can't be your wife anymore, we are throwing her out of the pack immediately!” His mother declared.
“No, I will punish her in my own way,” Williams retorted.
“My Alpha, we should banish her from the pack entirely” Suggested Gloria.
She must want to get rid of me that badly. But why? Wasn't Alpha Williams the same person she rejected? Why does she want him now?
“Please Williams, I can explain,” I pleaded one more time, but he looked away from me.
“Gloria, please don't do this to me. You have to help me, you know I…” I begged, holding onto her legs.
“Let go of me immediately! You are in this alone, and I have no reason to help you!” She snapped, yanking my hands off.
I rolled to the ground, still crying and pleading, but they all remained unmoved.
“Take her away from here, and have her locked up in the storage” Williams commanded the guards.
As the guards approached me, I quickly brought out the pregnancy result I had kept hidden until now.
'No, I won't let him lock me up. Not when I'm pregnant with his child' I muttered to myself.
Just before I could hand the result over to him, and make him know about it, Gloria snatched it away from me.
“Give it back, give it back to me right now! Gloria, you can't have it." I said, reaching forth to grab it from her.
“Who the heck wants to even have it? I'm going to get rid of it, "she answered.
Slowly, before my eyes, she tore it into shreds without minding what the content was.
Tears streamed out of my eyes, I was going to go after her, but she pushed me hard to the floor.
The guards quickly grabbed me and while they were taking me away, I kept on begging,” Please give me a second chance, Alpha Williams .”
It all fell on deaf ears, and before I could know it, I landed in the storage room, and the door locked behind me.
My eyes were flooded with tears. Had I known it would end this way, I wouldn't have started it. Despite my efforts to save my mother, she couldn't make it. Although I wanted to leave, I had to see through the end.
Alpha Williams was the only one I had left, and we were doing just fine, we were even going to have a baby, so why? Why did this have to happen now?
I am aware of Gloria's personality, and it is not surprising that she could influence Williams to harm me. She has likely returned to be with him now that he has become the Alpha of the pack.
I have to leave this place if not for anything but the sake of my unborn child.
So I started making escape plans, racking my brain on what to do.
Soon, an opportunity came my way. It was when one of the guards came to bring dinner for me.
I charged towards him, sending him flying a few meters away, and then I sneaked out, locking the door securely behind him.
To avoid being noticed, I quickly shifted to my wolf, and sprinted into the forest, running as fast as my legs could carry me.
All of a sudden, I started to hear howls coming from the forest. It was deep and menacing. The hairs on my back stood up, and goosebumps were all over my body.
"Howl!!!" It kept on going, and I quickly turned my neck around, only to be met with the shock of my life.
I have been surrounded by rogues, and they were coming furiously at me, their fangs and cannines, slipped out, ready to devour me.
'No!!!!' I cried out, I can't let them have me! Without a moment's thought, I jumped over the cliff.
