Chapter 1 Please Save My Baby

Aurora Crawford had just returned from her prenatal check-up at the hospital and couldn't wait to get home to her fiancé, Lucius Hastings.

He had been away for over six months as his company opened a branch in Novaria. With Aurora's due date approaching, Lucius had finally returned.

Aurora was overjoyed because after the baby was born, she and Lucius would finally be walking down the aisle.

With a heart full of joy, she pushed open the door.

To Aurora's surprise, she came face to face with her stepsister, Ruby Crawford, lying on the bed.

Ruby was completely naked, with only a thin sheet covering her body.

Seeing Aurora, Ruby was momentarily shocked. Then, she smiled and said, "Oh, it's you, Aurora. Long time no see!"

"You... Ruby? What are you doing here?!" Aurora exclaimed in shock.

Aurora felt her head spin as she looked at the woman in front of her in utter disbelief, almost thinking she must be seeing things.

Ruby was supposed to be studying in Novaria, so Aurora never expected to find her in Lucius' room like that.

Aurora felt a sense of unease rising within her and asked, her face pale, "Where is Lucius?"

Ruby giggled. "Lucius? He's taking a shower."

Only then did Aurora hear the sound of running water coming from the bathroom.

She unconsciously clenched her fists, her voice trembling with disbelief. "You...you two..."

"As you might have guessed, Lucius and I have been together for a while now. You probably want to know why, right? Well, the truth is... Lucius and I have been together for ages! He went to Novaria half a year ago because of me," Ruby said with a smug smile. "And there's more you should know...the child you're carrying isn't Lucius'! Aurora, you got drunk and messed around with some other guy ten months ago. How dare you try to pin it on Lucius? How disgusting!"

"Wh...what are you talking about?" Aurora was stunned, and her eyes were filled with disbelief. "You're lying! I don't believe it. This child is clearly Lucius'!"

"Don't believe it? Aurora, do you think Lucius went abroad for any other reason? Of course, it was because he didn't want to see you! You betrayed him, and you still dare to pin the pregnancy on him? It's laughable," Ruby said in a sarcastic, mocking tone.

Aurora's breath hitched.

That night was her engagement banquet with Lucius. Aurora had a few too many drinks because she was overjoyed. Later, when things happened, she naturally assumed the person she was with was Lucius.

But Ruby was telling her that the man hadn't been Lucius.

Aurora carefully recalled the scene from that night and realized the man didn't seemed like Lucius.

She said, "No, I don't believe it. I want to hear it from Lucius himself."

Aurora's face turned pale, and her whole body trembled subtly.

Ruby continued, "There's no need for him to admit it. FYI... On the night of your engagement, Lucius and I spent the night together. And as for you, I intentionally arranged for someone to take you to another room."

With that, she deliberately lowered her voice and spoke with a tone full of satisfaction. "Ruby...you despicable person. How could you do this to me? Have you not taken enough from me already?"

Aurora's body trembled with anger. She then raised her hand and slapped Ruby hard across her face.

Coincidentally, Lucius walked out of the bathroom and saw that. He angrily asked, "Aurora, what are you doing?"

Ruby pretended to look aggrieved and said, "Lucius, she found out the truth about us. She didn't believe it and then slapped me..."

With an almost livid expression, Lucius glared at Aurora in anger. "Aurora, you've done something shameless yourself, and now you dare to lay hands on Ruby?"

As Aurora looked at the fierce man in front of her, she felt her heart ache terribly, as if it had been cut with a knife.

She shook her head and murmured, "I don't believe it. The child in my belly is clearly yours..."

A hint of disgust flickered in Lucius' eyes. "Aurora, you've done something shameless, so don't expect me to clean up your mess. I'm not big-hearted enough to raise another man's child!"

"Then why didn't you tell me earlier?!" Aurora's eyes turned red, and her whole body trembled. "If you knew the child wasn't yours, why did you deceive me? You said you would give me a dream wedding after the child was born!"

With that, she felt as if her entire being was struck by lightning.

Aurora realized how she had transferred her shares to the Crawford family over the past year.

She had given up her inheritance to be with Lucius.

And now, they were telling Aurora that the child wasn't Lucius'.

She instantly understood what was going on.

Aurora suddenly laughed in extreme anger. "So...all this deception was about money, wasn't it? You deceived me just to secure Ruby's inheritance?"

When confronted with the truth, Lucius turned somewhat awkward.

Upon seeing this, Ruby immediately stepped forward and said, "Aurora, you were the one who betrayed Lucius first. So, how can you blame him?"

Lucius' expression turned dark and menacing at her words. "Aurora, get out of here. From now on, we have nothing to do with each other."

"How dare you say that?!" Aurora exclaimed bitterly.

After investing so many years of emotions, all she got in return was a cold, "nothing to do with each other."

Aurora then mustered all her strength, rushed forward, and fiercely slapped Lucius.

Unexpectedly, he reacted quickly and pushed Aurora away.

She stumbled and couldn't regain her balance. Aurora then fell hard to the ground, her belly facing down.

Immediately after, Aurora felt a piercing pain in her belly, accompanied by the sensation of warm liquid.

A crimson trail of blood began to flow between her legs.

Aurora muttered weakly, "The baby...my baby..."

Her face turned deathly pale, and with such a severe blow, her vision started to darken.

With tears streaming down her face, Aurora called her best friend with her remaining consciousness. "Mabel, please save my baby..."
